Overview
Irrespective of Uganda being praised by WHO for successfully moving towards achieving Universal Health Coverage, it remains among the top 20 countries with the highest unmet need for vision correction, according to an ODI report. There are also less than 10 practising optometrists for a population of 45 million people in Uganda, one of the highest ratios in the world.
Dot Glasses launched its effort in Uganda in August 2020, focusing on leveraging the Radical solution given the extreme lack of optometrist in the country. At the same time, Dot Glasses aims to partner with the few existing eye care providers in Uganda to bring low-cost glasses to the impoverished areas in Uganda.
• Adjustable one-size-fits-all eyeglasses
